A new forum for Latino issues will debut Feb. 5 with a talk from Los Angeles City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa, a former candidate for L.A. mayor.

The organizers of the Arizona Latino Research Enterprise say they will cuminate the first phase of a speakers series with a town hall in the summer.

Issues the group will explore include the establishment of a Latino cultural center and a directory of Arizona Latino leaders.

"We founded ALRE to ask the question, 'What does it mean to be a Latino or Latina in Arizona,'" said Mario Diaz, an organizer.

"We want to look at some political and public policy issues and where Latinos stand on them."

The speakers' forum, named the Rachel Rivera Speaker Series, will feature Villaraigosa discussing "What does it means to be a Latino/Latina?"

The presentation runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel at 50 E. Adams St.

Diaz is president of Mario E. Diaz & Associates LLC. a marketing and public relations firm in Phoenix.

Other organizers organizers include Sal Rivera, a partner with the Fennemore Craig law firm, and Art Macias, director of the Arizona Division of Weights and Measures.
