Programs and Services
At a time when non-for-profits are recognized as vital agents of social change, professional organizations are increasingly essential to preserving democracy, and traditionally invisible ethnic minorities are growing in numbers and influence, the Arizona Latino Research Enterprise performs a significant role in providing a network and forum for the social, professional and civic advancement of Latinos in Arizona.
ALRE's current programs include the following:
Rachel B. Rivera Speaker Series
Rachel Rivera was a remarkable woman and a respected leader who dedicated her life to God, family and the community. She wrote spiritual plays and songs that are performed and enjoyed in churches throughout the Southwest. After raising her children and helping with her beloved grandchildren, she returned to Phoenix Community College to complete her formal education. There, she excelled in and out of the classroom and received numerous academic scholarships and awards.
Unfortunately, her bright career and vibrant life were cut short by a form of cancer that disproportionately affects Latinas. She passed away on September 21, 2004 after a long and courageous battle. Rachel left a proud legacy and ALRE is honored to dedicate its speaker series to Rachel B. Rivera and the thousands of unsung heroes and leaders in our community.
ALRE Latino Town Hall2009 will mark the Fifth Annual ALRE Latino Town Hall. This year's Town Hall will include the unveiling of the new ASU/ALRE study, "The State of Latino Arizona." It is currently scheduled to take place on November 12 and 13, 2009. Check back frequently for more information!
